Parents and carers are playing an increasing role in guiding the further and higher education of their children. Partly this is driven by the introduction of variable fees for English students and the rising cost of accommodation and 'student living'. Not surprisingly, parents want their children to be able to get a job when they graduate to pay back the large loan, and probable overdraft, they will have acccumulated.

Universities now cater for parents and carers, as well as prospective students, at their open days with talks on student finance, accommodation and student support.

Here we try to answer some of the questions parents and carers might have and provide information on careers in one of the largest science based industries in the UK - the pharmaceutical industry.
