My Choices @ 16...

At 16 you have many more choices to make than you had at 14. School or college? Or a work based apprenticeship?

If you are at all unsure, it is really important to get expert advice. It isn't always obvious what subjects you will need to do a particular degree, or what 'doors' you are closing by choosing not to study a particular subject.

If you want to study for a science degree at university then you should take at least two science A levels or Highers in appropriate subjects. Chemistry is often needed for entry on to biological science courses. Studying maths beyond GCSE is also very useful for almost any science degree, for more information see Should I study maths?.

If you are taking a Diploma in Engineering get advice on what Additional and Specialist Learning (ASL) courses you should take.

For students in Scotland a new Modern Apprenticeship in Life Sciences is now available at levels 2 and 3.
